Fluidized waste treatment system
using natural purification
At the Fukuyama site where ICs are manufactured, we used to
hire a subcontractor to incinerate spent developer, which
makes up 70% of all our industrial waste. This method placed a
significant burden on the environment, including the energy
used for incineration and exhaust gas from the vehicles
transporting the waste. Treatment costs swelled as production
increased. It was a challenging issue for us, from both an
environmental and managerial standpoint.
We at the Fukuyama site had been pursuing in-house
treatment for spent developer, and we finally completed a
fluidized waste treatment system using natural purification in
1996.
This system is based on a concept of purifying spent
developer by natural processes. Built according to our
proprietary design, it is a state-of-the-art system that produces
no hazardous sludge during the treatment process.
Microorganisms Purify Water, Sustain
Monitoring by Fish
In-House Treatment of Used Developer
to Produce No Polluted Mud
Sharp’s system makes the maximum use of materials existing
in nature. In the microorganism treatment process,
microorganisms cultured to high levels of density are used to
decompose most of the main components in spent developer
that have strong alkalinity.
In the oyster shell treatment process, neutralizing treatment is
carried out using a film of microorganisms that forms on the
surface of oyster shells to decompose other organic
substances.
In the Bincho charcoal/bio-activated charcoal treatment
process, charcoal agents absorb a slight amount of the
remaining organic substances. The charcoal is cleansed
automatically, as the absorbed organic substances are treated
by microorganisms growing on the surface of the charcoal.
In the fish monitoring process, in addition to measuring
instruments, water safety is monitored with freshwater fish,
such as roaches and Japanese bitterlings, which are sensitive
to environmental changes.

Effective use of water at Mie site
Making the Most Effective Use of Water Resources
Recovery effluents with a reuse rate of 92%
Special Edition
2
Our Mie plant is located 10 km southeast of Matsuzaka City in
Mie prefecture. The nearby Kushida River is the source of
drinking water for Matsuzaka citizens and is also used for local
agricultural irrigation. Since LCD manufacturing requires a lot
of water, drainage treatment is an important factor in
environmental preservation in the neighborhood.
Effluent Treatment Facility Ensures
Reuse Rate of 92%
Clear Concept for Environmental
Preservation
Pure water used in the production process is classified into
inorganic, organic and neutral effluents* before being
discharged and recovered in a closed system for later reuse.
When we began operations in 1995, we mainly recovered and
reused inorganic effluent, which was believed to have a
negative effect on the environment with a recovery rate of
30%. We had repeatedly evaluated treatment processes to
recover and reuse organic and neutral effluents until 1996
when we introduced a new treatment process. This process
utilizes microorganisms for the organic effluent and
ultraviolet-ray oxidation treatment technology for the neutral
effluent. This raised the recovery rate to 69%.

COPYING AND PRINTING
Productive Copying and High-Performance Network Printing
Note: Print function is standard on the AR-M620N but the AR-M620U requires the optional AR-P19 Printer Expansion Kit.
Quick First Copy Time
The AR-M620U/N has a quick first copy time of 3.9
seconds to save valuable time when performing multiple
short-run jobs.
Astonishing Output Speed
With a continuous output of 62 cpm/ppm*, the AR-
M620U/N allows you to produce large-volume documents
that include memory-intensive graphics in less time.
*A4 (8
1
/2" x 11") size, portrait
150-Sheet Duplex Single Pass Feeder (DSPF)
The AR-M620U/N comes standard
with a highly efficient 150-sheet
DSPF (duplex single pass feeder),
which scans both pages of two-
sided documents in one pass to
minimise paper misfeeds and vastly
improve reliability. With an
amazing scanning speed of 76 originals per minute (opm) for duplex
mode and 65 opm for simplex mode, the AR-M620U/N finishes even
large projects quickly.
Job Build for Large-Volume Scanning
The AR-M620U/N easily handles copy jobs exceeding the DSPF‘s 150-
sheet capacity*
1
. Large-volume documents of up to 10,000 pages*
2
are
automatically stored in the AR-M620U/N's hard disk so that users can
print all documents at once at a later time.

1
/2" x 11") size
*2: Measured by Sharp standard chart (A4 size with 6% coverage)
Productive Output and Job Offset
The AR-M620U/N’s Scan Once/Print Many function requires only a
single scan of a multi-page original for copying, while its RIP Once/Print
Many function needs only a single download of the print data from the
PC for printing. The AR-M620U/N then automatically outputs collated
sets of copies or printouts in the proper page order. Each set is stacked
offset for easier retrieval and up to 999 copies can be made directly
from memory. This highly productive process allows you to handle high-
volume jobs and contributes to a comfortable office environment by
reducing machine noise and energy consumption.
Professional Job Finishing
The AR-M620U/N makes it easy to
create professional-looking documents
automatically. The optional Saddle
Stitch Finisher folds and staples sets
of documents to make completed
booklets. A Finisher is also available for
jobs that require only simple sorting
and stapling. The Inserter enables you
to attach pre-printed covers or inserts
up to 256 g/m
2
in weight to your
documents for truly professional results. These high-performance
finishing capabilities save you valuable time and money by reducing
costly outsourcing.
Built-in Stackless Duplex Module
The AR-M620U/N can make
two-sided copies and printouts
using its built-in stackless
duplex module, effectively
reducing paper costs as well as
saving filing space. Auto
duplexing is available for paper
weights up to 205 g/m
2
. Duplex copying is even more productive when
used together with the 150-sheet DSPF.
Large Paper Capacity
The AR-M620U/N comes standard
with a 3,100-sheet paper
capacity: two 500-sheet drawers,
an 800-sheet drawer, a 1,200-
sheet drawer, and a 100-sheet
multi-bypass feeder. For large-
volume jobs, the AR-M620U/N
can accommodate up to 6,600 sheets when equipped with the
optional 3,500-sheet large capacity tray. When a tray runs out of paper,
the Auto Tray Switching function automatically switches to another
paper tray filled with the same size paper. This allows you to do extra-
large volume jobs without worrying about running out of paper.
Network Tandem Function
When two AR-M620U/Ns are connected to the same office network,
you can use both simultaneously to double copying/printing output to
up to 124 cpm/ppm.
Operation is simple
and the machines can
even be in different
locations. With just a
few keystrokes, you
can handle large-
volume jobs to meet
tight deadlines.
PCL6 and PostScript 3 Emulation
The AR-M620U/N supports PCL5e and PCL6 printer languages*. For
compatibility with PostScript 3, the AR-PK5 PS3 Expansion Kit is
available.
*Optional AR-P19 Printer Expansion Kit required for AR-M620U.
Powerful Network Printing
The AR-M620U/N works as a network printer* with the most commonly
used network operating systems and protocols and even in mixed
network OS environments. With a 64-bit, 525-MHz CPU, you get
powerful network printing via 100Base-TX and 10Base-T Ethernet
standards.
*AR-P19 required for network printing with the AR-M620U.
Network Utility Software (Windows® only)
Printer Administration Utility makes
printer networks easier to manage by
allowing network administrators to
customise monitored items and view
settings such as the IP address directly
from their PC. Printer Status Monitor
conveniently allows you to monitor
important printer information your PC,
including on-line/off-line status, name of
the active print job, and machine
conditions such as amount of paper or
toner.
Space-Saving Inner Output Tray
The inner output tray gives the AR-M620U/N a compact design.
Installing the optional finisher allows convenient separate output of
copies and printouts.
Superb Image Quality
You get ultra-detailed reproduction with 600-dpi resolution. The
printing resolution can be enhanced to 1,200 dpi (with smoothing).
Digital Auto Exposure Control provides optimum copy contrast, and
Text/Photo mode automatically adjusts the copy contrast for documents
containing both text and photos.
Various Copy/Print Applications
Tab Copy/Print can copy or print directly
onto tabs on document separators and
insert them into assigned positions,
enabling you to create professional-looking
documents.
• With PDF/TIFF Direct Print, you save
valuable time by printing PDF and TIFF
files without using the printer driver or
opening applications: you can print the file directly from an FTP
server (pull print), a Web page (push print), or an e-mail attachment.
Note: Direct PDF printing requires optional AR-PK5. Certain types of TIFF and
PDF files may not print out this way.
Carbon Copy Print mode automatically
outputs multiple printouts of the same
data on plain and/or coloured paper from
different paper trays, making it convenient
for thing like multi-print invoices and
purchase orders.
Proof Printing allows you to check a trial set before printing out a
document in large numbers in order to avoid printing mistakes.
Barcode font compatibility
(with the optional AR-PF1 Barcode Font Kit)
Book Copy is convenient for compiling copies of a book or bound
originals into pamphlet format.
Card Shot enables one-touch copying of both sides of a card (credit
cards, ID cards, etc.) onto a single page.
